Fascinated by glass

I don't know much about glass. I drink out of glasses. My favorite casserole dish is from glass. And my windows are often enough from quite dirty glass - which is my own fault.

Even if I don't know much however I loved to walk by the glass maker's store as a kid. I'm afraid he probably had to clean his window glass every time after I pressed my nose to it. I was fascinated by the small animals, the marbles, the lampshades ... and I'm still fascinated by glass today.
The glass maker is still there and now I live just up the road. I still peek in there, but I'm grown-up enough to not make his window dirty anymore. Most of the times. His daughter made these windows for us after the design of a dear friend.

Or what about the book from the library that my Latin teacher had recommended? It was about a glass maker in the Roman territories trying to make unbreakable glass. It took me over 20 years to find that book to add to my own collection.

Each time there is something about glass blowers on TV, I'll watch it, no matter if I have seen it three times already. And have I told you about the fascinating show yet with the guy making new windows for a church?

Then I learned about lampwork and a whole new world opened up.
Now I don't press my nose against store windows, but my computer screen. Come with me and I'll show you some of my favorite focal beads.

Chipmunk by NValentine Studio - how I love the earthy colors.

Moorland Whispers by Bead Up A Storm - I can't tell you how often I have looked at this bead. My muse already is trying hard to think up a good design for it!

Mallard by Melissa Vess - couldn't you just get lost in that deep green?

Sorry, I must go now and browse some more. Maybe we'll meet again somewhere, looking at glass ...

Cat your window is fantastic.
Fred and I were lucky enough to tour the Corning Glass Works a few years ago. It was amazing to see the vessel take shape from it's molten state. I have such respect for the talent you lampies possess.
