The most recognized holiday in February is on the 14th of the month when sweethearts throughout the world may celebrate Valentine's Day. Originally, known as St. Valentine's Day, there is no known connection between any of the several saints named Valentine and love or romance...their saintly renown is in their martyrdom. It is believed that the first reference to Valentine's Day as associated to romantic love was made by Geoffrey Chaucer in his work Parlement of Foules from the 14th century.
The presentation of Valentine's cards mostly likely started in the late 18th century in England, became very popular in the 19th century and by the second half of twentieth century the practice included gifts of flowers, candy throughout the United States. In the '80's the diamond industry jumped on to the bandwagon and jewelry became a staple item in gift selections. The traditional symbols of Valentine's Day are heart shapes, doves, cupids, and red roses...our Starving Artists Jewelry team members have many beautiful items incorporating these symbols that any sweetheart would love to receive...check out these options as a way of saying..."I Love You".
