April

"April" - from "Les Très Riches Heures" du Duc de Berry

"April is a promise that May is bound to keep" - Hal Borland
"April hath put a spirit of youth in everything" - William Shakespeare
"April comes like an idiot, babbling and stewing flowers" - Edna St. Vincent Millay
"Here cometh April again, and as far as I can see the world hath more fools in it than ever" - Charles Lamb (my personal favorite among these quotes)
And last, but not least "Sweet April showers do spring May flowers" - Thomas Tusser

Interesting mix, isn't it? So what is April to you?

Here in Germany we have a proverb going "April, April macht, was er will" - translated "April, April, does what it wants".
It's the month in which you can rely only on the fact that you can't rely on anything regarding the weather.

First it gives you the famous April showers. You are happy about them because after a long winter you feel rain is still better than snow, even more so if the rain is as beautiful as this necklace from 2 Belles and a Bead. Usually it's a lot wetter, though.

Just when you have gotten sick of the constant rain and the sudden temperature changes (can you hear the giggling from up there beyond the clouds?), you get up in the morning and soon wish you hadn't looked out of the window.
Snow??
What else? Nobody walked through your street at night and covered it with flour, just to play a prank on you. It's snow, face it. Come on, get out your snow shovel again and try to find your car. If you are lucky, you can see the pixies throw snowballs at the squirrels, like here in Pixe's Treasure Chest.

But miracles do happen. One day you see people sitting outside in the street cafés, children eating icecream, barbecue season has begun and the shades come out of the bags again.
You look up and there it is, warm and bright, twinkling at you - the sun.
Of course it's very well possible that the next day you wake up to a thunderstorm again, so it might be a good idea to carry your own little suns with you like the ones from Distinction Jewelry.

If you like adventures, April is the month for you, if you like consistency, hm, sorry, maybe you should stay in bed for a month.
It's almost over now - so share with me, rain, sun or snow, what do you face right now?
Here it's 70 ° F at the moment and sunny. So what am I doing sitting at the computer??? See ya!

Eye Candy: Focus on Onyx

Do you believe that gemstones have metaphysical properties? Even if you don't, it can be bracing to wear a stone that is said to have them when you are in need of those properties. Onyx is said to help you meet challenges in life, especially those that would rob you of energy. It is supposed to prevent the draining away of personal energy and can be worn as protection. It is also said to help eliminate, and protect you from absorbing negative energy.

In addition, onyx is said to have medical properties; it has been used by some to help heal wounds, and it is supposed to make childbirth easier by increasing stamina and self-control. On that last one, even if it doesn't work, we'd be tempted to give it a try!

Onyx is said to be a good protective stone; it can be worn to help you through tough situations. It is said to keep away general negativity, and would be a good choice to wear around difficult people. Whether or not onyx actually has these properties, it is a beautiful stone, and we know you will enjoy wearing it. If you'd like to add some onyx to your jewelry box, click on any of these photos to learn more about the item:

Today's pick are purely personal - and you've just come shopping with me!!
What can you tell?
Come on - have a go - from these three photos... what can you tell?!

I think that your choice in jewellery says as much about you as your choice in clothes, shoes or hand-bags.
It's very personal - to the point where sometimes others can't pick for you.

Eyjafjallajökull or I believe I can fly

Nope. I couldn't if I wanted to. Fly, I mean. And a lot of others can't, either. Not even the ones that want to. Like my husband, being stuck in a hotel in Detroit right now.
Nature has done it once again and kicked technology's .... oops, well, you know what I mean. But do you also know why Eyjafjallajökull is spitting ashes for the first time since 1821? A troll king is living there and he is mad, very mad. I know that from a friend whose partner's boss is from Iceland.
I don't know if the troll king stomped with his foot or what, but the results were amazing. I never got my house to erupt, not even when being very mad. The troll king (sorry, I couldn't find a reliable picture) threw a tantrum and off the volcano went, just like in this beautiful and not as dangerous necklace by MC Stoneworks.

Mankind has always been living near to volcanoes. The soil is fertile and people are good at blocking out the dangers going out from such a powerful neighbor, like Mount Vesuvius, Pinatubo, Krakatau, just to mention a few names that are stuck in our memories.
The power of a volcano, the fire, the ashes, the rocks, we fear them, but are fascinated by them as well.
Mentioning lava rocks - they are lightweight and beautiful which makes them perfect for impressive jewelry pieces. Look at the great contrast in these earrings by Aeris Designs!

Still I doubt that the people waiting for their planes, riding on crammed trains, longing to reach their destination are interested in lava rocks right now.
I bet they would rather grow some wings like these beauties from BeadsBeadingBeaded, so they would be able to say ... I believe I can fly.
