Let me tell you a story, my child

Once upon a time - that is how all good stories begin - there was a fairy chrysalis hanging from the big rose bush over there.
You don't know what a fairy chrysalis is? It is a cocoon that will one day hatch a fairy. Yes, just like butterflies, but fairy cocoons are much more beautiful.

From the colors you sometimes can tell what kind of fairy will be born from them. The chrysalis I am telling you about was like a creamy yellow moonstone with a crust of warm colors, yellow, peach, brown, garnet, amethyst, to name just a few. The elder fairies said a Warm Moonstone Fairy would hatch from it. They like the garden and love roses, so it was a nice coincidence that her cocoon was on a rose. It would be the first flower for her to see.
So the other fairies waited to welcome the newborns.

Nobody could have known what would happen, though. Instead of coming out in the bright and warm sun the little one overslept in her nice and warm cocoon. That isn't something that happens often, but this time it did, so when the chrysalis finally broke open, all the little fairy saw was a dark garden. Everyone had gone to sleep already and rolled up in their leaves as they didn't expect any hatching at night, and as fairies don't snore like your father, Moon, for that was her name, didn't know they were there at all.

Of course she got scared, so would have any of us. Instead of calling the others, she started flying around. Even a fairy needs a bit before knowing how to fly well, so Moon landed right in the next big bush. It was pitch dark in there and she felt very lonely and very small.
She pulled her knees up and put her arms around the legs, laid down the head on her knees and started crying.

Almost she wouldn't have heard the little whispering coming closer.
Do you know fairy lights? No, my dear, I'm not talking about the Christmas lights. What should Christmas lights do in a bush whispering? Hm, but they were probably inspired by the real ones, you might be right about that. Fairy lights are actually little fairies, but you can't see them because they are surrounded by a twinkling light. It's there to protect them from humans and it's there to help others who have lost their way.
One of the elders had woken up with an uneasy feeling that something was wrong in the garden. She went to all the places where a chrysalis was and imagine how alarmed she was when she saw the open one! So she sent out the fairy lights.

Moon was very glad to see them, but when they wanted to take her back with them, she found she felt very weak not only on her feet, but also in her wings. As much as she tried, she could not fly nor walk.
When the fairy lights told her to wait while they would get help, she almost started crying again. She was very young after all and didn't want to be alone again.
She forgot all about her tears, though, when suddenly a large butterfly crawled into the bush. He looked a bit sleepy as he had been woken up, but fairies and butterflies help each other out when there's need. And this was an emergency. He let Moon climb onto his back, carefully crawled out of the bush and then flew back to the garden.

By now everybody was awake and anxiously awaiting the new arrival.
The elder that had woken up put a rose leaf around Moon and gave her some nectar to drink and now she knew - she was home.

A special thanks to Gwenbeads for inspiring me to write this little story. When seeing this fairy chrysalis, the idea shaped in my head.
Then I had to look for Moon. I found her in the shop of Galadryl Design.
At that point I wondered about an adventure for Moon. Lucky me stumbled upon the Fairy Lights by LAValleyGirly.
From the shop of Danagonia finally came the rescue, the butterfly.

Will I ever remember to visit you on Tuesday? I have you in my calender...maybe?

You'd think the fairies would ask one person to stay up just in case?

I guess they got used to everything going perfectly, Kevin ;-)
