The Wardrobe and the Jewelry Box

"I don't have ANYthing to wear!" Husbands and boyfriends know that scream of despair, especially shortly before fancy events.
"This outfit is too old, that outfit is not fancy enough and what about this one ... does it make me look fat? Come on, you can say it, be honest." I myself am guilty of that from time to time and I hardly ever do dress up. Ehm, and to BE honest, since I'm not exactly a wood fairy, there's no need for me for asking that question all men fear - I already know the honest answer, so why should I wait for a polite one?

If you think the problems are over once the decision has been made about the outfit, you are wrong. I'll take the shortcut for you ... what shoes to wear, what coat to wear and most important of all - what jewelry to wear?
Luckily I'm a black velvet addict which makes it pretty easy as almost everything goes with it.

Let me show you what I mean.

The vintage party dress from the studio of Dirty Betty Vintage has a bodice sparkling with sequins. I would choose a classy and simple necklace with it to keep the balance, like this lovely heart and pearl lariat by MC Stoneworks.

If this vintage coat wasn't a size XS, I'd snap it up from the 2 Nutty Girlz in a minute. It has the elegance of the 50s, but the empire waist says 60s. Let's pick some earrings to go with it. That of course depends on the outfit underneath. I vote for a nice straight 50s sheath in which case my choice would be pearls with a twist in these beautiful beaded earrings by Bead Origami.

A post about velvet would not be complete without the gothic variation. I spent quite some time in Rose Mortem's studio before I picked this gorgeous velvet and chiffon top as an example. Can you imagine Galadryl Design's "Blood Reds" creation in this neckline? I can, believe me!

Oops, I think my husband's waiting ;-)

I admit I choose my jewelry to wear based on the outfit I've put together, but I'd like to do it the other way around someday!

Great post Cat!

Lovely wardrobe and selections, Cat.

I'll admit, I usually decide what jewelry I'm going to wear first and then select whatever clothing goes best with the jewelry!
