What's your style

Perusing magazines recently I noticed the variety of names to describe different styles of necklaces. I have a few favourites that I like to wear myself, chokers and princess being my favourite - what are yours?

Here are some examples of styles that may sway your opinion ...

Choker necklaces are short in length and sit across the collarbone and fit snugly around the neck.

The Princess is a traditional style necklace that is usually around 18in long.

Matinee - over 20in long and sits either below or along the bustline

Opera (or rope necklace) is longer than the matinee - some can be worn double stranded

Lariat - this style of necklace is usually open with decorated ends that are looped or knotted instead of clasped.

How interesting, I actually never heard any of these names, maybe they are not used here like this?
It's always great to learn something new and you picked beautiful examples!

Same here. Ok, I have heard of choker and lariat, but the other names are new to me. Thank you, great info and nice choices.

Mine would be the Princess if any :)

Beautiful necklaces not matter what length!

I must be a princess as that's the length I like best. Used to like chokers, but the older I get the more I don't like stuff to be snug against my neck. Stopped wearing t-shirts for the same reason. However, for the beautiful example shown, I would be happy to make an exception!

I like to wear 18, 20, 24 and 30" all layered together. I agree you did pick some great examples.

I've heard of them all...learned when I was researching necklaces once. I prefer to make the princess length, and to wear that length too. I also like the opera length, although I've only made one like that (60"!!), and I don't have any in my collection. I love the examples you chose, they are beautiful.

The new favorite that I seem to be asked for recently is a 30 inch long lavaliere necklace. it has been fun making them.
My personal favorite length is matinee.
