Ancient Egypt

Ancient Egypt - the civilization in the eastern North Africa, still so fascinating to people all over the world.
What comes to mind when we think of Egypt?
Pyramids, the Sphinx, mummies (and their curses ;-)) ...

... and Cleopatra VII, the famous pharaoh who to the general public today probably is more known for her beauty and her relationships than for her political achievements.

It has been said she once won a bet with Marc Antony about spending ten million sesterces on a dinner. You probably know the story, she dissolved one of her priceless pearls in a cup of strong vinegar. What a shame!

And of course we all know she used powdered lapis lazuli as eyeshadow. I'm glad that isn't done anymore today, we would rob ourselves of beautiful pieces of jewelry!

A great role in the country's affairs played the river Nile. The Nile is generally regarded as the longest river in the world with a length of 4,132 miles. When I think of it, I see crocodiles and Hercule Poirot - which certainly doesn't do it justice! I wonder if it has undercurrents ...
